Weekend Match Reports - 8th/9th May 2021

Unfortunately the weather put paid to both of Ashburton's Devon League games on Saturday. The first team travelled to Shaldon but no play was possible whilst Torquay seconds travelled to The Varwell to meet a similar fate.

Sunday's match went ahead despite the showers though, and Ashes welcomed Ipplepen for a South Devon League clash. The visitors won the toss and elected to have a bowl and made two early breakthroughs with Oliver Holroyd (2 for 23) reducing Ashes to 14 for 2. A partnership of 66 between surviving opener Dan Coles (38) and Lloyd White (20) got the innings back on track before a further 3 quick wickets fell to Freddie Harvey (2 for 25) and Josh Castleton (2 for 37). Marcus West (42no) batted through to the end of the innings as Ashes posted a final total of 145 for 8 in their 35 overs.

The Ipplepen batsman found runs even harder to come by and with some tight bowling from Marcus West (7 overs, 2 for 8) and Luke Pascoe (6 overs, 2 for 27) they nosedived to 10 for 4. Some lusty blows from Dom Durman (25) got the innings moving until he holed out off of Matt Churchill (3 overs, 3 maidens, 1 for 0). AJ West (6 overs, 1 for 13) also picked up a wicket to leave Ipplepen 52 for 6. Oliver Holroyd (30no) and Freddie Harvey (10no) then batted through to the conclusion of the innings without ever threatening the Ashes total as Ipplepen finished 97 for 6 off of their 35 overs.
