On Saturday Ashburton travelled to Exeter to play a University 3rd team at their Topsham Road ground. The students batted first and amassed 229 for 5 in their 40 overs. Tom Higgs (1 for 40) bowled an excellent opening spell and there were further wickets for Jack Warren (2 for 32), George Yabsley (1 for 16) and Luke Pascoe (1 for 25).
Asburton's reply was based around 49 from opener Phil Pascoe. Skipper Ash Berry chipped in with 17 and Marcus West contributed 21 as Ashes reached 112 for 4. The demise of Pascoe saw the remaining Ashes wickets tumble as they were all out for 132.
On Sunday an Ashes side travelled east to play Shobrooke Park. The hosts batted first and posted 252 for 7 in their 40 overs. Wickets for Ashton West (2 for 44), Jack Warren (2 for 56), Toby Pascoe (1 for 28) and Marcus West (1 for 41) as well as a superb direct hit runout from Pascoe.
Ashburton flew out of the blocks in reply with Tom Rush leading the charge. He was backed up by skipper White with an unusually sedate 35 as the two added 137 for the second wicket. When Rush fell soon after White for an excellent 92 the required rate of just over 6 an over proved too much for the incoming batsmen although Pascoe (13), Steve Edmonds (18no) and Felix Partidge (9no) kept the board ticking over as Ashes finished on 227 for 5 after their 40 overs.
