Marcus out to hit Three Peaks Challenge for 6!

Ashburton Cricket legend, Marcus West, always loves to set a challenge. Just 2 years ago, Marcus smashed through the 500 league wicket mark for the club and continues to churn out performances week in week out for the club. In his 35th season at the club, he, alongside a group of colleagues from the United Schools Federation, including several Heads of School, are aiming to raise money and awareness for Young Minds by completing the Three Peaks Challenge! (https://www.threepeakschallenge.uk/)

The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, often within 24 hours. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 meters (10,052ft). The total driving distance from Ben Nevis in Scotland, to Scafell Pike in England and then to Snowdon in Wales is 462 miles. The team's aim is to start the challenge on the 27th of May, driving to Fort William in Scotland. The 24hrs starts as soon as they leave the carpark, at the base of Ben Nevis. If all goes to plan, 24 (ish) hours later, they should have completed the challenge ending in the carpark at the base of Snowdon.

Ashburton CC is delighted to be able to make a personal contribution to the fundraising, where Young Minds has been selected as their chosen charity. Young Minds are a charity which supports young people with their mental wellbeing, something which is very important at the moment in particular.

Marcus reflected on the challenge ahead; "Doing the 3 Peaks Challenge is quite a task but we feel that Young Minds is an excellent charity and does amazing work to support young people with their mental wellbeing. This is so important especially with everything that people have had to deal with over the past year or so. As a group, we are very keen to raise as much as we can to support this great work and appreciate all the support people can give."

Secretary Lloyd White wished the team well "On behalf of the entire club, we wish Westy and the crew a fantastic challenge. They have chosen a wonderful charity and I know they will smash all of their targets. But Westy, please don't come back injured - the club needs you in one piece! Enjoy!"
