Ashburton first team welcomed Paignton seconds to the Varwell on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bat on a firm looking strip and were soon in all sorts of trouble as Steve Edmonds (1 for 24) and George Yabsley (3 for 15) picked up a wicket each to leave them 6 for 2. Connor Bryan (15) played some nice looking shots before hitting one straight to Matt Churchill on the boundary off of Yabsley and a run out followed by a further wicket for Yabsley meant Paignton were 29 for 5. Rio Koyikkara (20no) batted through the remainder of the innings and found a bit of support from Mike Pedley (11) and Max Pedley (12), but when they both fell the remaining wickets fell cheaply as Matt Churchill (2 for2), Will Coon (2 for 2) and Aditya More (1 for 9) ensured Paignton were all out for 79 with more than 15 overs of the innings remaining.
Ashburton lost both Yabsley and Ash Berry with the score on 20 but Lloyd White (40no) and More (22no) ensured no further mishaps as the target was reached for the loss of 2 wickets after 18 overs.
After the game skipper Edmonds said "Good, clinical performance where we looked much more like ourselves. Yabs bowled really well up top and everyone else followed suit. Great to see Lloyd and Adi take the responsibility to see us home after an early wobble.".
Lloyd White whose unbeaten 40 anchored the Ashburton run chase.
Ashburton second team travelled to play Bovey Tracey thirds and after losing the toss were asked to bat.
Phil Pascoe (43), Jerry Crouch (18) and Marcus West (14no) were the only batsman into double figures as Ashes were all out for 117 in the 34th over. Ryan Jones (4 for 12) and Andrew Williams (3 for 6) doing the damage for the hosts.
Williams (34) and Harry Bannister (24) were then the chief run getters for Bovey as Ashes made them work hard for victory. Rob Lambert (2 for 14) was the pick of the bowlers and their were also single wickets for Jack Warren, AJ West and Phil Pascoe as Bovey ran out winners by 4 wickets in the 30th over.
