After an opening day victory, Ashburton first team hosted a Stoke Gabriel side who had also won their opening encounter.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket that looked surprisingly dry and firm given the mid week rain. Stoke skipper Jack Tolley (30) started positively and was given a couple of lives when he was first caught off a no ball and then a tough leg side chance was put down by skipper Ash Berry. Steve Edmonds bowled another fine opening spell (9 overs, 2 for 18) and when he dismissed Tolley, Stoke were 42 for 2. Runs then completely dried up as Matt Churchill (9 overs, 2 for 22) and Will Coon (7 overs, 3 for 12) bowled with excellent control and backed up by some excellent Ashes fielding Stoke became frustrated and threw away wickets to a succession of poor shots. Only Jake Robinson (13) made it into double figures as Stoke were all out for 94 in 35 overs with Jake Pascoe (2 for 2) finishing off the tail.

Ashburton knew that occupying the crease would win them the game on a wicket that had proved very challenging to bat on. There were stands of 22 between Lloyd White (8) and Jake Pascoe (16), 20 between Pascoe and Dan Coles (19) and a further 27 between Coles and Arun Karthick (11) that broke the back of the chase. Martin Causey (8no) and Edmonds (8no) saw Ashes over the line with 6.3 overs remaining. Tim Withington was the pick of the Stoke bowlers with 2 for 13.

After the game Berry said "We had a marked improvement in our bowling this week and could apply pressure very early. It told on a few of their batsman and we were able to take our time during the chase. We still have areas of improvement and our batsman have not been tested properly yet, but the guys are up for the challenge and are enjoying their cricket.".

Ashburton 2nd team travelled to play Paignton 3rd team and came out on top in another low scoring encounter.

Robin Lambert (4 for 11), John Baglivi (2 for 26) and youngsters Kirkby West (2 for 10) and Freddie Harvey (2 for 1) combined to bowl Paignton out for 66 inside 23 overs.

Only Greg Robinson (36) made any significant headway for Ashes and it was left to bits and pieces from the rest of the order to see the home team over the line at 67 for 7 with over 19 overs remaining.
