New overseas recruit Arun Karthick (1 for 36) picked up an early wicket and his opening partner with the new ball was another new recruit, Steve Edmonds who kept things tight from one end with a fine spell of 7 overs, 1 for 15.
Mark Roca made the most of a couple of lives on his way to 43 and when he fell to Will Coon (1-41) at 76 for 3, Luke Richardson (39) and Daniel Piddock (42no) batted sensibly against Matt Churchill (9 overs, 1 for 25) who provided excellent control. Matt Coon (1 for 40) and Chris Yeo (2 for 19) picked up wickets in the late dash for runs as Cornwood finished their 45 over allocation on 182 for 7.
Jake Pascoe (18) provided the bulk of the early runs for Ashburton but when he fell to Lee Baker (2 for 22) Ashes dipped to 43 for 3. Karthick and Dan Coles rebuilt the innings with a fine partnership of 80 that was assisted by a generous helping of extras from the Corns bowlers. When Karthick fell for a lively 42 Edmonds joined Coles to knock off the rest of the runs without any further mishap. Coles finishing unbeaten on 31 and Edmonds on 20.
Ashburton 2nd team entertained Stoke Gabriel 2nds and after being inserted posted a formidable total of 221 for 5 in their 40 overs. The innings was based around a fine knock of 97 not out from Marcus West. Support came from Greg Robinson (47) and Jack Churchill (32).
