Ashburton first team entertained already relegated Plympton seconds knowing that a win would secure their C Division West status for another season.
Skipper Ash Berry won the toss and elected to bowl first and Chris Yeo set the tone with a fine opening spell of 9 overs, 6 maidens, 2 wickets for just 6 runs. He was backed up well by Robin Lambert (2 for 14 from 9 overs) and Jake Pascoe (2 for 14 from 4 overs). Only Oliver Goulder (21) and Jame Campbell-Beattie (23no) made scores of note as Plympton were all out for 132 in the last of their 45 overs.
Openers Pascoe (14) and Lloyd White made a 42 run dent in this and then Berry joined White to take the score to exactly 100 before White was dismissed for an excellent 49. Berry (32no) and Dan Coles (21no) saw Ashes home without further mishap with 18.4 overs still to spare.
Skipper Berry said after the game "We've worked hard on our game over the last ten weeks after a rocky start. Now the league table reflects that effort, and the targets we set out at the beginning of the season have been hit. We still need to finish strongly though and take it into next year."
Chris Yeo - 9 overs, 6 maidens, 2 wickets for 6 runs
Lloyd White - 49
Ashburton second team didn't fare so well away at Brixham seconds. After being inserted they were bowled out for 99 with Duncan Haddrell (32), Harvey Field (15) and Greg Robinson (14) the only scores of note.
Early wickets for Marcus West (1 for 11) and Jerry Crouch (1 for 25) gave Ashes hope but a fine third wicket partnership took Brixham to an eight wcket victory with 21 overs to spare.
